On May 25, our Milwaukee swing dance community came together for the Second Annual Shim Sham Flash Mob to celebrate World Lindy Hop Day (May 26) and honor the legacy of Frankie Manning.

Each year, swing dancers from around the world mark Frankie Manning’s birthday by dancing the Shim Sham, a tradition that connects communities across continents through a shared love of Lindy Hop. This year’s celebration brought dancers from across the Milwaukee area together for an afternoon filled with energy, laughter, and plenty of swing-outs.

We danced the Shim Sham at various locations around the Milwaukee Art Museum and our Lindy Hop MKE dance group performed Frankie Manning’s Big Apple. We wrapped up the event at the War Memorial Beer Garden, where dancers gathered for one last surprise Shim Sham. It was the perfect ending to a day dedicated to community, music, and honoring the history of the dance we love.

We are grateful for another successful year and are already looking forward to making next year’s Flash Mob even better. Until then, keep dancing, keep sharing the joy of Lindy Hop, and we’ll see you on the dance floor!
