About this Policy

We organize Lindy Hop dance classes, workshops, social dances, and related events in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Events may take place at the Delaware House, Villa Terrace Gardens & Museum, and other venues identified in individual event listings.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share personal information when you visit my website, register for an event, purchase a ticket, or contact us.

These activities are organized independently and are not represented as being operated by a nonprofit organization or a separate company.

Information we collect

When you register for a class or event through our website, we may collect:

  • Your name.
  • Your email address.
  • Your phone number, if provided or requested.
  • Dance experience or other information you choose to provide in a registration form.
  • Your event registration, attendance, and ticket details.
  • Information contained in messages you send to us.

Please avoid including sensitive personal information in optional registration notes. Only provide information relevant to your participation or registration. Your registration information is used to manage your class or event registration and send important event-related communications. If you would like to receive occasional announcements about upcoming classes, workshops, social dances, and related events, you can subscribe to our newsletter on our contact page. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Payment Information

Payments are handled separately through PayPal.

When you pay through PayPal, PayPal processes your payment under its own terms and privacy policy. We may receive transaction information needed to confirm your payment and manage your registration, such as your name, email address, payment amount, transaction reference, and payment status.

We do not intentionally collect or store your full credit card or bank account details through our WordPress tickets or registration form.

For more information, please review PayPal’s Privacy Statement.

How we use your information

We use the information collected through our website to:

  • Register you for classes, workshops, and events.
  • Confirm your registration and payment.
  • Send event reminders, schedule changes, venue updates, cancellations, and other information relevant to your registration.
  • Respond to questions and requests.
  • Manage attendance and event logistics.
  • Send promotional announcements about future classes, workshops, and dance events when permitted by applicable law and consistent with your communication preferences.
  • Maintain appropriate financial, transaction, and registration records.
  • Protect the security and proper operation of my website and events.

We do not ask for more information than we reasonably need for these purposes.

Promotional Emails

We may offer email announcements about upcoming Lindy Hop classes, workshops, social dances, and related events.

Registering for a class or purchasing a ticket does not, by itself, mean you have agreed to receive ongoing promotional emails. We encourage participants to subscribe separately using an optional newsletter signup form.

You may unsubscribe from promotional emails at any time by contacting us at info@lindyhopmke.com.

Unsubscribing from promotional emails will not prevent us from sending essential messages about a registration you have already made, such as a confirmation, cancellation, or venue change.

Promotional emails will identify the sender and include an appropriate mailing address and a way to opt out, as applicable under U.S. email-marketing law.

Where information is stored

Registration information submitted through our website is processed by WordPress and the event registration plugin used on the site. Depending on the plugin and its configuration, registration records may be stored in the website’s database and may also be included in website backups or administrative emails.

Website hosting providers and other technical service providers may process information as necessary to operate, maintain, secure, and back up the website.

Access to registration records is limited to those who need the information to manage the website or organize events.

Third Party Services

We use third-party services where necessary to operate my website and events. These may include:

  • WordPress event registration and ticketing tools.
  • PayPal for payment processing.
  • Website hosting and backup providers.
  • Email services used to send registration messages or promotional announcements.
  • Website security or analytics tools, if enabled.

These services may process personal information according to their own privacy policies and service arrangements. Their data practices are not entirely controlled by us.

We do not sell registration information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

Sharing Information with venues

Our events may take place at independently operated studios, museums, or other venues.

We do not routinely share attendee lists or registration details with venues for their own marketing purposes. I may share limited information when reasonably necessary to coordinate an event, manage attendance, address a safety concern, or comply with a legal obligation.

Venues may separately collect information under their own policies when you interact with them directly.

Photography and Video

Photographs or videos may occasionally be taken at classes and events for community documentation or promotional purposes.

Where appropriate notice or consent is required, we will provide that notice or obtain permission before using identifiable images for promotional purposes.

Please contact us at lindyhopmke@gmail.com if you have a question or concern about an image of you used in material that we control.

Other attendees may independently take or share photographs. We encourage everyone to respect the privacy and preferences of fellow dancers, consistent with the community’s Code of Conduct.

Cookies and Technical information

WordPress, the website host, and any enabled plugins or third-party services may use cookies or similar technologies to support website functionality, security, preferences, or analytics.

The specific information collected depends on the tools and settings enabled on the website. Where required by applicable law, appropriate notice and choices will be provided for nonessential cookies or tracking technologies.

You may also manage cookies through your browser settings, although disabling some cookies may affect website functionality.

How long information is kept

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to manage registrations, communicate with participants, maintain transaction records, resolve disputes, and meet applicable legal obligations.

Registration records, emails, backups, and payment records may have different retention periods depending on where they are stored and the purpose for retaining them.

When information is no longer reasonably needed, we will take appropriate steps to delete it or otherwise dispose of it, subject to applicable retention requirements.

Your Choices and Privacy Requests

You may contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information that we hold about you, subject to applicable law and legitimate record-keeping requirements.

You may also unsubscribe from promotional emails at any time.

To make a privacy request, email info@lindyhopmke.com. Please describe your request clearly. I may need to verify your identity before responding.

Some information may need to be retained for accounting, legal, security, or dispute-resolution purposes.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information, including limiting access to registration records and using appropriate website security measures.

However, no website, email system, or electronic storage method can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

Please do not send payment card details, passwords, or other highly sensitive information through registration notes or ordinary email.

Children’s Privacy

Our website is not intended to collect personal information from children without appropriate authorization.

If an event permits minors to participate, additional registration, consent, and privacy arrangements may apply. Parents or legal guardians should contact us with questions before registering a minor.

External Links

Our website may link to PayPal, event venues, or other external websites. Those websites operate under their own privacy policies and terms. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of websites we do not operate.

Changes to this Policy

We may update this policy when our website, registration tools, or practices change. Any updated version will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
